12 days in italy help
ok so my wife and i are flying in and out of milan this mid sept, we are both not into alot of museums. but have a couple we want to see..
Our plan looks a little bit like this......
day 1 fly in to milan and head to rome by train
3 days two nights in rome
2 night near cinque terre
1 night in venice
and the rest hiking somewhere in the dolomites.
then back to milan to fly out..
Is this doable and does anyone have any suggestions to help me plan this.

It appears you will actually have 1.5 days in Rome, 1 day in the cique terre and two half-days in Venice.
1 - arrive Milan - train to Rome - 0.5 day at most in Rome
2 - one full day in Rome
3 - depart Rome; arrive Cinque Terre -- 0.5 day at most.
4 - full day in Cinque Terre
5 - depart Cinque Terre; arrive Venice -- 0.5 day at most.
6 - perhaps 0.5 day (maybe more) in Venice before departing for Dolomites
Of your six "days" you are actually in your destinations only 4 at most. That's one-third of your time in transit between destinations. Is that what you really want to do?

You should lay out your itinerary in real time, not say x days here and x days there which usually means you're counting your travel days twice.
I assume you're traveling by train with the possible exception of the Dolomites.
Malpensa to Rome will take 4-4.5 hours.
Rome to the Cinque Terre will take 4.5 hours.
Cinque Terre to Venice will take at least 5 hours plus time to reach your Venice hotel.
Unless you're renting a car for the Dolomites, your hiking options will be fairly limited. The drive from Venice to, say, Ortisei would take about 4 hours. To Cortina would be about 2.5 hours. You could train to Bolzano (also about 4 hours), but it's a city and not a mountain village. Then, from "the Dolomites" back to Malpensa will be another long train ride (4.5 hours from Bolzano) or long drive (at least 4 hours from Ortisei or 5+ hours from Cortina). To avoid any events that could make you miss your flight, you should probably spend the last night at/near Malpensa.

Since you don't say you're planning on spending any time in Milan, except for the airport, why not fly into Rome and out Venice? If you really have six days, spend 3 in Rome and 3 in Venice. Or, if you really want to hike, perhaps, fly into and out of Venice, and spend your entire 6 days in Venice & hiking.
Your initial plan is too ambitious for such a short time.
