1/2 Day Outing From BO to Zurich

In a few weeks my wife and I will be staying in Grindelwald, driving back to Zurich to catch a flight later that night at the end of our week stay. On our return, we are looking for a fun 1/2 day trip. Interlaken or Luzern are obvious choices, as we pass right through. We will have a car.

Lake Brienz? or Lake Thun?
Mt. Pilatus?
Engelberg - Titlis?

We are open to any suggestions! Thank you.

The trip from Luzern to Titlis and the ascent will take about 1/2 day. Great views from the top and the trip back and forth to Engleberg goes through the typical "it can't be real" Swiss countryside scenery once you get out of the Luzern "suburbs" and those aren't that bad, either.

If you are on a rail pass you'll get a discount on the three-stage lift up to the top; the last of which is in a rotating gondola (Italian).

Since you've already had most spectacular mountains around you I suggest some culture/architecture for a change - what about the gorgeous Benedictine monastery Einsiedeln? You could do the scenic drive via Lake Lucerne and Ibergeregg pass.

Thanks. I like both suggestions. I've read about some nice boating trips departing from Interlaken. Which would you say is the best one to take? I think after several days hiking in the mountains, a romantic, relaxing boat ride may be in order!

There are two options: Either lake Thun or lake Brienz. I personally prefer lake Thun with the beautiful churches, castles and gardens (Spiez, Oberhofen, Hilterfingen, Thun).

Uh oh - I'd like to change direction here - just checked weather forecast for the coming week - lots of RAIN! We can't change our plans, since we depart on Thursday June 7.

Is there anything to do in BO if the weather stays wet??

We were looking forward to the hikes, trails, blue skies, and snow-capped mountains, not fog, rain and mud.

Getting depressed just thinking about it....

It won't be *that* bad. Where did you check the weather? Here's a good website:

For rainy/cloudy days: The castles, especially Thun with the old town, Bern also. Ballenberg museum near Brienz. Trümmelbach waterfalls. Beatus caves (Lake Thun).
