10 Days in Southern Spain
Hi!
My friend and I are 27 and going to Spain for 10 days over new years. I have already seen Seville, Barcellona and Madrid so I want to see something new. We are thinking of staying south and possibly flying in and out of Madrid.
What are the major cities in Southern Spain to hit?
Also, would it be worth it to go to Lisbon as well and fly out of there?
Thanks for any thoughts!
Kim

In the south there is Granada and Ronda. There is Basque country including San Sebastian. There is Galicia in the northwest and all the towns that circle Madrid.
I may be in the minority but Lisbon is not that interesting. Evora, Sintra, Braga. and Coimbra are however.

Why limit yourselves to "major cities"?
Much of the charm of Spain lies in the smaller cities (Salamanca, Segovia for example), and in the "white hill towns ".
Arcos, Ronda, Grazelema are three favorites. Walking through the nearly deserted streets of old town Arcos at night is a special treat.

If you want to see something different go to northern Spain. The coastal area is not so cold as the towns of central Spain. I'd recommend to check out the Basque Country.

All of the suggested cities have their charms but if you ask about southern Spain in particular I would suggest Granada, Cordoba, Ronda. Cadiz, Arcos de la Frontera, Jerez de la Frontera. If you are at all interested in resort areas there is the entire Costa del Sol. If your destinations are all in the southern part of Spain you might wish to arrive in Malaga or Seville. As for Lisbon, that will depend upon the time you allot to your trip to Spain as you have only ten days. Do you plan to drive?? In any case if you do decide on Lisbon, it would be more convenient to leave from there.
