Check in to Grand Hotel Bohemia
Explore Old Square
Charles Bridge

June 10th
Attend Beer Festival at Prague Castle
Sight Seeing - Are there certain museums, castles or things we should see here?

June 11th
Considering a possible day trip or one night stay in Cesky Krumlov in route to Salzburg
If not, open for suggestions of other day trips or must sees or eats in Prague

June 12th
Travel to Salzburg - Is train the best bet?
Staying at the Sheraton

June 13th

June 14th
Daytrip to Berchesgarten and Salt Mines

June 15th

well you don't want to hire a car in Czech and return it in Germany as the drop off fees will be nasty. Basically you document city to city visits, so a train is the obvious choice. you may find seat61.com useful to understand the european train system and bahn.de to get an idea of actual timetables and prices.

Prague has enough to do in it to fill at least 5 whole days. I'm not that excited by Salzburg but hey your holiday!

Prague :
Castle : The Castle will take 1/2 to 3/4 of the day, and this includes the castle, painting colletion museuem, history of castle, golden lane, north and south gardens. There are different entry tickets suited to taste. I used the Cz 350 ticket + Cz 350 Audio Guide, which still does not include the church tower and 2 other attractions.
Be ready for a tiring walk, but the ticket is valid for 2 days, so you can always come back.
Last week there was a free entry to the exhibition of the real crown made of gold and it took me 3.5 hrs waiting in the queue to see it.
You can also combine the Castle visit with the Petrina hill, which will again involve a walk, but the views from the tower on Petrina hill is amazing and a must do.
The Petrina hill can also be visited separately using a funnicular , where the Cz day / week train pass is valid.

To reach the castle please use the Tram 22 and alight at Prazsky Hard, this is a very easy entrance as you have to walk just 5 mins to enter the castle. The other routes involve a steep climb ( steps outside Malostranska metro )

Old Town , River Cruise , Charles Bridge : Simple things to do and dont need lot of explanation. In the Old town climb the tower above the astronomical clock, again splendind views of Prague from here.

At the end visit the TV Tower observation deck and the Petrina hill tower, this will help you put in perspective all the attractions you visited during your Prague trip. The TV tower is easily accessible via the Metro.

I did all the above attractions last week using the Metro / Tram using single ticket of Cz 24 most of the time and involved lot of walking. Only the last day I used the day pass for Cz 110.

Hope this helps.

Cesky krumlow : This is easily accessible by many of the buses the ply between Prague and Krumlow. I used Student Agency bus company and booked a return ticket. Start with the castle , the museum is not very interesting and you can just visit the observation tower in the castle, from there move towards the gardens at the other end of the castle, on the way there are several viewing points of the town. Come back all the way to the tower and then cross the bridge towards the old town square and the church. You can have meal at any of the restruants along the river , most of them are located near the bridge. You can then stroll along many of the small streets in Krumlow.
All this would take a maximum of 5 hours including your meal, the bus ride to krumlow is 3 hrs one side from Prague. I would rather do it as a day trip rather than stay overnight as most visitors would return by thevening and the town is mostly empty by the evening I assume ( may be wrong also ).
The drop and pick up points of the Student Bus Agency is the same in Cesky Krumlow, which is also the pick up point for goverment buses, as I saw many of them when I was waiting for my pick up.

Day trips from Salzburg :
Hallstat & Salt Mines : Hallstat is a must do and if it fits in your travel plan, stay overnight in this quaint lakeside village. Absolutley marvellous. The entire village will take 3-4 hrs on walk as its a very small village but most of time you will stop and spend time revelling the sights. Take a boat trip in the lake.
After evening when most of the visitors return back by bus, the village is much calmer and peacefull and you will enjoy it much more.
Salt Mines : In my personal opinion overpriced at 30 Euro, but good to do, especially once you relaise how in the middle of nowhere , an entire mountain of salt originated. The observation deck gives a fantastic view around . Start the Salt Mines trip first thing in the morning, as they alllow limited visitors per batch for the guided tour.

Lake Konigsee/ Obersee / Berchtesgaden / Eagle's Nest:
We did the Lake Konigsee by boat and then did the trek to Rothback waterfall which takes you around Lake Obersee. Its a 4-5 hour trek and must do, The views of lake Obersee are stunning, you wont regret it. Buy the Euro 17.5 ticket for lake konigsee and take a break at St Bartholoma church and then at Salet from where you can trek to the Waterfall via Lake Obersee. Pay attention to the last return boat timings. Preferable start very early 9 am and carry something to eat( sandwich, or some fruits ) and drink.

We did not have time for Eagle's nest as we started the the lake konigsee trip late in the morning. Also the eagles nest by itself should be 1/2 day trip I assume. And also I assume its a separate entrance from the Lake Konigsee. There is a information centre in the Berchestgaden town or the Lake Konigsee parking who should be able to help you.
