I'm planning a trip to Italy in September and am looking for the perfect 10-day itinerary. We're hoping to hit Rome/Florence/Venice, but want to see everything (of course)Italy has to offer while managing to keep a reasonable pace. Since it is our honeymoon, a little romance wouldn't hurt either.

Is it 10 days NOT including travel to/from Italy? If you haven't factored in your arrival and departure days, I'd plan on only two cities (Rome and Venice unless either of you are into art/Renaissance history). You'll lose about a half day travelling between cities.
If your time in Italy is 10 full days, then you might consider adding a third city. Pick a place that is generally between Rome and Venice (or Rome and wherever) so you don't lose even more time to moving around. If you add Florence, however, you'll have to short-change all three cities a bit.
Lastly, try to buy open-jaw air tickets to preclude your having to return to Rome (or wherever) to fly home.
The Venice people on this board will say you MUST go to Venice. It's SO romantic. Yes, it's romantic, but so are many other places. Consider one of the islands (Capri, Ischia, Sardinia) or somewhere along the coast. Don't try to see everything or it won't feel like a honeymoon.

Hi! I would suggest Venice(for the romance) and Florence (and the surrounding Tuscan area ( also for the romance). I think Rome needs a trip on it's own or perhaps combined with Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. Rome is a very hectic place and can be a bit overwhelming. From Florence you can take some wonderful side trips. Happy honeymoon.
I would suggest flying into Venice. Logistically it makes sense to do this first, because you don't want to be incumbered with your luggage and tons of souvenirs on the vaporetto. I am one of those people that think Venice is incredibly romantic. I also find it very relaxing and fun to stroll around. That way, you can get over your jetlag. (4 days)
Then, I would pick a town in Tuscany(Somewhere that's about equidistant from Venice to Rome) and take in some daytrips to nearby towns and vineyards. You could take the train or pick up a car just outside of Venice. You will need to have a car in Tuscany to make it worth going or you will need to hire a driver/tour guide. (2-3 days)
Lastly I would go to Rome. Though it's true that Rome has so much to see and do that it could merit it's own trip, you can see the main tourist sights with time to wander and relax in about 3-4 days. And fly home from Rome.
I loved Rome, but could never spend more than 3-4 days there at a time. It's a busy place with so much, I would be exhausted and crippled from walking too much! It's better to make it a destination on several trips to Italy rather than just 1.
