10-12 Days in Southern Italy - itinerary ideas/hints/tips?

Jump to last reply

Hello - we are looking at 10-12 days excluding travel in Southern Italy in September of this year. The idea surfaced last night over a couple of bottles of wine so excuse the short planning horizon.
My first thought is to fly in and out of Naples if that will work since we just spent two weeks in Rome over Christmas. As far as sites and locations, here are the ideas:
Naples for 2-3 days/nights
Amalfi coast for 4-5 days/4 nights
Matera via Paestum for 2 days/2 nights
Garnago Peninsula for 2-3 days/2 nights
Drive back to Naples and fly home

This will be our first trip to Southern Italy and we've found that understanding a region takes a good 10-12 days on the ground.

My question - is this a reasonable route or should we also consider naples/amalfi coast/sicily instead and skip the eastern coast area? We could spllt the 12 days 6 and 5 with a transfer day inbetween....fly into naples and out of palmermo?

We are in very early 60's, adventurous, physically fit and have done a lot of travel in europe indpendently as my posts on this forum will attest.

Many thanks in advance for all your insights!
