1 wk in Bordeaux - any cheesemakers nearby?
Hello!
My husband and I will be spending 7 or 8 days in the Bordeaux region (first week in September). We're going to rent a car, using Bordeaux as our base and explore St. Emilion, Arcachon, etc. but in addition to vineyards, would like to see if we can visit some cheesemakers. My husband is particularly interested in seeing Roquefort and Abbaye du Belloc -- does anyone happen to know the distances to these places (by car, or train) from Bordeaux?
Thank you!!

OH, five hours or so, depending on which route you take....
Really, if you're visiting a country with 465 cheeses, or whatever the number is, it seems a tad silly to travel that far for a certain cheese.
Just head for a cabécou farm in the Dordogne...there will be signs along the roads, as well as signs for foie gras, walnut oil, honey, and other local products.

Hi M,
Maps and driving directions are at www.mappy.com and www.viamichelin.com.
Are you sure that you want to stay in Bordeaux and deal with the traffic, when you could stay out in the country and take the train into Bordeaux?
