1 week in Iceland
I am going to Iceland for one week. Besides the "Golden Triangle" and Reykjavik, what else should I see? I have read that Myvatn lake is one of the top attractions, but I understand that the bugs there in August (which is when I will be going) are extremely oppressive. Please advise...

We went to Iceland 7 years ago, end of July. Wonderful experience, we drove anticlockwise all around the Country staying in school colleges which are used as tourist hotels during summer holidays.
My best : Höfn, Akureyri, Pingvellir and all the Falls.
We couldn't stay at Myvatn more than 20 minutes. Too many flies.
Keep in mind that everything is really very pricey.

Le Canard,
Thanks for your reply. We are thinking about going to Hofn and exploring the Skaftafell national park. We're thinking of either renting a car and driving (from Reykjavik) or flying. Do you know how long a drive it is from Reykjavik to Hofn? Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

We drove all day, with some diversion to places of interest along the route arriving at Höfn quite late in the evening.
We purposely didn't make any reservation so at the end of each day we had to find out which "school" had vacancies.
When renting your car pay attention to mileage and extra insurance fee for driving outside main roads.
