1 week, 3 College Guys in Italy
We're 3 guys in our 20's headed out to Italy for a week. We land Thursday evening in Rome and depart the following Thursday morning from Venice. We want to see as much as possible spending as much time as possible. We want to combine the amazing cities of Rome and Venice, along with perhaps other cities, as well as the amazing countryside the country has to offer. Saturday we're meeting up with friends in Rome, so that days out. What to you guys recommend we do? Train or rent a car? What quaint villages are there to go and stay in? Farmhouses etc? Looking forward to hearing your great ideas!!!!! thanks all!

It seems you'll be in Rome at least until Sunday. At that point you'll have four more nights in Italy, so you could spend two nights in X and two nights in Venice.
If you want to see countryside, renting a car for those two days would be a good idea. You'd probably have to rent it in Rome, because small-town rental agencies are usually closed on Sundays. You could return the car in Venice. (Don't think of driving in either Rome and Venice.)
There's a wide selection of routes you could take and places you could stay in these two+ days.
You could head to Tuscany, which is the standard tourist mecca. In that case, you might want to return the car in Florence and take a high-speed train to Venice; the autostrada between Florence and Venice isn't a scenic or fun ride.
You could drive through Umbria and Le Marche, where there are great scenery and lots of nice little villages. The are no autostrade on this route, so you'd have a long slow drive read over two days, which would allow you to see the area close up and stop where you like.
You could drive through Abruzzo, taking the autostrada almost the whole way. You would get off somewhere, probably in the mountains, stay in a charming village, and drive around the area, or take a hike in the mountains. Then take the autostrada to the coast, where you'd take another along the coast to Venice.
Probably you should read up on these areas. Once you've decided which route you'll take, we can suggest places to stay. Do give us more specifics about the trip, and also about your interests.
