1 extra night in Dubrovnik

Jump to last reply

Because of rental car restrictions in Bosnia, we find ourselves with an extra night in Dubrovnik area. We spend the last of three nights in Dubrovnik on June 9th and are considering staying on one of the small islands off the coast of Dubrovnik or hoofing it to Montenegro and staying 1 night, the 10th of June. We are booked in a place in Plivitice Croatia for the night of June 11th. We are pretty good travelers and will be pretty rested after three nights in Dubrovnik. Looking for suggestions for about 24 hrs. in either location. What do you guys think? I hope I was clear. thanks in advance.

Sorry, but I'm not sure I'm following your itinerary in sufficient detail....

If 3 nights in Dubrovnik mean 2 days there, well, that's bordering on the high end for Dubrovnik IMO. I don't think you have time for Montenegro (which really takes a full day just to get to Kotor and back, and so -- depending on your interests -- might not leave you enough time for Dubrovnik itself), but you might be able to take the mid-afternoon ferry to Korcula on your last day. I thought Korcula delightful! A one night stay, with about a day total (from time of arrival to time of departure) for Korcula Town, was perfect for me. YMMV.

BUT maybe you currently expect to have 2.5 days + in Dubrovnik? If so, a day trip to Montenegro WOULD make sense! (Or, as an alternative, a day trip to Mostar -- but I thought it worth an overnight stay, because I found it MUCH more charming after day-trippers leave.)

And depending on your timing, you might be able to move on to Trogir or Split, but I admit that I don't think they fit your schedule well -- I thought the two together worth a bare minimum of 2 days. They're only 1/2 hour apart by bus, so you can base in either. Trogir is TINY and so can be visited in just 1/2 day or less. I loved Split and wish I'd given it more than 1.5 days. (Other Fodorites have liked it less.) Still, you might be able to skim the area briefly en route to the magnificent Plitvice Lakes. (And yes, the lakes are glorious!)

BUT it all depends on YOUR interests, so check your guidebooks, check opening hours, and see what works for you!

    Hope that helps!
