hi there fodorites,
i'm hoping some of you paris apartment experts there might be willing to share with me your experiences with one bedroom (or studio) apartment rentals?
i've visited many of the various sites/agencies that have been listed on this forum (i.e. vrbo, parisperfect.com, ahparis.com, etc.) but i'm really looking for SPECIFIC recommendations (i.e. unit # or name, or however these major sites refer to their specific apartments.)
i am looking for a centrally located property for under 100 euros per night. i will be visiting paris from september 23 - 30, 2008.
i don't expect luxury at this price but i definitely do not want a 'dive'. i require a double bed (although, the bigger, the better)and a decent sized bathroom (i.e. no knees hitting anything when you're sitting on the toilet). in addition, i'd like laundry facilities (but can deal if they're not at the apartment), an elevator/lift if the property is higher than the 2nd storey (bad knees). i don't need a patio, a garden, or anything like that. given that it's september, i also don't need a property with a/c.
to be honest, i'm a bit hesitant about the whole rental idea ... i.e. what happens if there is a problem, how do you know if the place will be as good as the pictures/website description, should i stay in a hotel so i will have someone available to point me in the right direction etc.
i travel a lot for business (mainly within canada and the US)...for 100 euros, i know i can't get a traditional business-class hotel in paris (i.e. westin, marriott, hilton) and a friend suggested i look into a vacation rental for my trip. however, i'm just finding the search somewhat daunting.
any/all help will be much appreciated!
thank you.
1 bedroom paris apartment - advice/recommendations please!

This vrbo got nice reviews on here. I know "fishee" recommended it and may have done a report...

PS This is a studio...
We stayed in this studio apartment in the 5th arr. Just over 5 minutes walk to Notre Dame, near several major bus lines and metro stops, with convenient restaurants and shopping. 5th floor with a lift, quiet building, washer in the decent sized bathroom, fully equipped kitchen(but small)
It was not fancy, but very comfortable, clean, and well-located. Our rate in March 2007 was 500 Euros for a week.
The owner, Didier Prudhomme, was very helpful.

Here are my comments for the studio I rented May 2007:

75 Euros per night
I spent 9 nights in Paris and decided to rent a studio instead of staying in a hotel. My friend Louisa joined me for a week and although the place was small, we had no problems moving around. However, we did move the dresser next to the left side of the bed, near the refrigerator, as it was in the way when the bed was down. There was still room to open the refrigerator.
The location of this apartment is wonderful. The bakery in the building has wonderful pastries and breads. Make sure you open the windows in the morning to smell the fresh baked goods. Nadia, who works in the bakery was wonderful, as she would add in an extra goodie or two to our purchase. There are lots of wonderful cafes and bistros in the area and I felt quite safe at night, especially having three keys to get inside the building and studio. I would definitely stay again, even though I didn't use the kitchen or the washer/dryer. For the price and location, it was well worth it. Both Fabrice and Jean-Pierre were very nice and helpful.

I am afraid in your price range you are unlikely to get a decent 1 bedroom in Arr 1-8. A studio is well within your means though.
Regarding the VRBO apt-in one photo I think there are folding chairs. These is so cheap looking and uncomfortable. Are a couple of real chairs really so expensive?
www.parisbestlodge.com has had good reviews on this board. I didn't stay with them because our dates didn't work but communication with Thierry was prompt and friendly.
We rented from www.parisianflat.com but their one bedrooms are over your budget.
hi everyone,
thank you so much for all of your input!!
i have NO problems with a studio, so if anyone has any experiences with a studio for under 100 euros a night, please let me know.
to Barb_in_Ga - do you have any pictures of your stay in the flat? i've contacted the owner to find out about availability...
tks!!

We rented this one br w/ elevator last May and are renting again this May. Good sized apt w/ comfy bed, good linens, big bathroom and good strong shower w/ plenty of hot water. Plenty of storage. Fables de la Fontaine right downstairs. Owners are lovely.
lilaki--We didn't take any pictures inside, but I will give you a link that shows other photos from the owner. Let me know if I can answer any further questions.

www.rentparis.com has a one bedroom apartment in the 3rd available that week for 85EU. We stayed in it a few years ago. It is small but has everything you need on 2 levels. It is apartment #1 at 41 rue Chapon. They have a lift and the windows open to a small interior court, making it very quiet. There is a small circular stair to the upper bedroom level which has a king sized bed. The bathroom is small but has a washer/dryer. For the price it is a good value in a good location. I do see they have a studio at 41 rue Chapon. It may be nice as well. Perhaps some one else can comment
Barb_in_Ga Wow, did a google search and this popped up. Flipkey on tripadvisor now has this apartment for rent and I just sent a request to Mr.Prudhomme. The link does not work for the other pictures but love that it is in the fifth and that it has a balcony.
