We're two adults making a stop at Juneau on our cruise. We have from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in port. We've been to Juneau before and pretty muchdone the highlights -- Mendenhall Glacier, Mt Roberts, kayak on some lake, the town. On this second trip, we're thinking of renting a car to go further afield. We don't mind doing Mendenhall Glacier again. Any advantage to having a car just for 2 people? Where else can we go ? Any scenic roads or attractions further afield that we could reach by car?
Thanks!
Worth renting a car in Juneau? Drive where?

If I recall correctly, you can't drive very far "out the road", as someone who lives there called it.
We liked the State Capitol, State of Alaska Museum, Wickersham House, Tracy Arm boat ride to the glacier.
Yeah, Abram you can't travel on road for long. Try to cancel your trip. Enjoy there only.
If I remember correctly, they are dead ends on both ends. There are still lots to see in Juneau even if you have been there a few times.
From my research, we're thinking of doing the following:
* Drive to Mendenhall Glacier. Hike for a few hours.
* Drive to Echo Cove (40 miles out) along th water edge and stop at the St. Therese shrine.
* Stop by Alaska Brewery for a tasting
Anyone know if you can drive up Mt Roberts? Last time we hiked up and took the tram down. Any other drives up the mountains in Juneau? The view from up there must be scenic.
Thanks!
Drive to Echo Cove / Berners Bay is about 1.5 hour each way. On a clear day, the view at Echo Cove on the Mountain/Glacier is great. Key word is "clear day". On average, you get 30% chance of sunshine in Juneau during the summer.
There is a Mt. Roberts Trail. It is connected to East 6 Street.
Last but not least, don't drinnk and drive.
