will I ever holiday again? cruises rule ok
After all my reservations I am now fully hooked on cruises. We sailed from Barbados in June aboard the Carnival. We had a balcony and this is a must for us in future. We visited St Lucia, St Kitts, St Maarten, Peurto Rico, and finally St Thomas.
I was most looking forward to Puerto Rico but that was my least favourite - I was expecting quaint streets and history but it disappointed. St Maarten was my most favourite followed by St Thomas.
I was looking forward to meeting people and we met some lovely people from Florida and stayed in touch with some people we met from Southampton on the very first trip in St Lucia.
We only did one ship trip, the rest we did ourselves and was only let down once on St Kitts when we were crammed in a too hot mini bus.
On St Maarten we decided on going to the French part of the island and stayed a day on the beach there - it was fantastic but with hindsight we would have stayed in the more ramshackle Dutch side of the Island - the bars here seemed to have more character.
On St Thomas they have excellent shops and in the centre of one of the arcades is a wonderful bar with a character of a barman who tells great stories, We got talking to an American who worked in Alaska and he gave us an insight into a place I had never dreamt about going to. In St Thomas there is a marvelous information guide and the lady there told us about Honeymoon Island where they filmed one of the 'Twilight' films - it has a gorgeous beach and bar and is inhabited by giant tortoises, and its not very far from where the ship docks.
The ship and their crew are fantastic - I was really impressed by their customer service. The food was excellent and can not complain about anything. My only oversight was that I only visited the fish bar on the last day where I had delicious fish and chips and shock horror to discover they served bouillibaise - had I known I would have had the soup there every day. .... it was excellent. Thank you Carnival.
The problem was when we got off the ship, despite a wonderful hotel in Barbados we wanted to be back on the ship.
Now we are planning our next trip - does anyone know if you can pick up a cruise in Mexico?

Well we took land vacations for many yrs. until our 1st cruise in 2002 and its been nothng but cruises ever since except for a land vaca to Hawaii and trips to India to see my wifes family. We did this in 2010 and did not consider having a vaca until our cruise in 2011 to the holy land.
Not sure about picking up a cruise in Mex. but try calling the cruise lines to find out.

Hi travelenthusiast
St Lucia was a little disapointing for me - but then again it did rain for much of the time and we had limited time on the island. We had an excellent escort on the jeep who provided insight into the economy, flora and fauna of the island.The beach we went to was excellent (other than this I dont recall much else about St Lucia - sorry).
The trip to St Kitts was interesting although a better vehicle would have made it much better. We saw an egret colony, went to an old sugar mill with some wonderful trees and plants and the beach also was excellent. One thing that really did annoy and worry me in St Kitts was the restaurant attached to a Casino in the complex that first greets cruisers - they had no working sinks in the toilets. My complaint was brushed aside and I was left thinking that no wonder stomach bugs sweep through ships.

Hard to say what's the best as they all have their merits.
The Baltic in the summer, especially June is white night season and its amazing.
Then there is the med and ports like Rome and Istanbul
The holy land was amazing. Israel has such history so that's why it's so special.
Then there is natural beauty like in Alaska and French Polynesia.
I could go on and on!
