What to pack for an Alaska Inside Passage Cruise in mid-June

We're travelling on Norwegian Cruise Lines and want to do and see as much outdoors as possible. Can anyone suggest what to wear, or what the weather's usually like? Many thanks.

I found it useful to have a hooded rain jacket, light weigh gloves, layers.

Layering is the key and in June you should be getting a lot of sunshine. Typically the weather in the usual ports is mid 50's to mid 60's. I have found this website to be very useful for typical weather ranges.

We did an Alaska cruise in mid-June several years ago. Layers, and including waterproof jacket were essential. We all brought gloves and hats - and all wore them. For day time, long pants, log sleeved shirt, fleece and then waterproof windbreaker. I brought shorts and never wore them.

An d having been on an Alaska cruise and warm-water cruises - dress in the evening is far more casual than warmer water cruises. People still dress appropriately for dinner - but think LL Bean-chic rather than "I went shopping before the cruise and now want to show off my wardrobe"

The problem is you will never know or get a definitive answer regarding the weather, so it's best to pack layers. We went to Seattle and did the Inside Passage Alaskan Cruise in September, 2011. Historically, September is the worst time to go due to weather as it tends to be very cold and rainy. The week we went it was mid-60's and absolutely beautiful. We brought full winter gear. Hats, gloves, coats, scarves and boots and about burned up. We took these items on tours, just to be on the safe side, and ended up dragging them around. We saw lots of people wearing shorts and flip flops. On the ship we were comfortable with jeans, short sleeved shirts and a sweater that we could take on and off as needed.

The week after us, the weather for them was horrid. Lots of rain and rocking around. So you just never know. I personally, wouldn't pack shorts. I don't wear shorts in 60 degree weather, but layers like short sleeve shirts with a removable sweater, long sleeves tops for nights, jeans, kahakis and dress pants.

I do agree with the comment that the Alaska cruises are not as formal as the Caribbean or other cruises. I actually forgot to pack my black dress pants for formal night and ended up wearing my black jeans and no one new the difference.

If your interested I have all vacation photos posted at:

We did dress in full winter gear at Glacier Bay just for the photo and then it all came off.

Hi all,

Thanks for the cruise pics KVR! I've been dreaming of an Alaskan cruise, so at least nice to see some of the scenery.

I've been searching for packing lists myself, so thought I'd share a really great one that seems to list everything you could possibly need for a cruise! It's from a site I frequent to salivate over great cruise deals if only I could just pack up and go!

Have a great trip... it just looks so beautiful up there!
Here's the first of their 10 lists: http://www.cheapestcruise.info/packi...-packing-list/
