What to do in Jamaica?

We will be cruising to the Western Carribean on the Explorer next spring and after three visits to Jamaica, I don't want to go shopping, climb the falls or see Fern Gully.
Been there, done that. Any other good suggestions on what to do while ashore. Someone a while back mentioned a day pass at Sandals but its an "adults only" club, and we are taking our 15 and 18 year old. Suggestions are welcomed.

There was a discussion about Margaritaville over at Cruisemates.com recently. It sounds like fun. Swim-up bar, pool with waterslide, beach, restaurant, music. Have not been there but it's right at the end of the pier, admission is free, and kids are welcome, so it wouldn't cost you anything to check it out. Your 18-year-old can order his/her own drink there, as the drinking age is 18. Also, My husband and I once took a plantation tour in Jamaica and that was really interesting. They drove us around a working plantation and showed us how they grow and harvest bananas, coconuts, cocoa beans, and sugar cane. It's amazing how fast those guys can shinny up a coconut tree or hack down a banana plant with a machete. They let us taste things right in the field. Fresh coconut milk right off the tree tastes SO MUCH BETTER than the stuff from coconuts in stores in the US. If we had had time after climbing the falls and shopping I would have taken our 15 and 18 yr olds there. I think it's called Prospect Plantation. Also people say Shaw Park Gardens are beautiful but the kids would get bored.

Get detailed info on Jamaica from whomever you booked your cruise with. Beware Travelocity tho....the lady I spoke with though Ocho Rios was a short bike ride from MoBay.

Several people on our last cruise went horseback riding in the ocean and loved it.

Isn't Margaritaville closer to Montego Bay?
Have heard lots of positives about horseback riding. Also heard that there is a dolphin encounter in Jamaica, but not sure about it.

Some years ago, on a Western Carib. itinerary, we stopped at Montego Bay and took a day trip to Negril. This was an excursion purchased through the ship. Bus ride was longish, but we spent the day at a nice resort, had a good lunch, and did cliff diving (allright, we watched others do cliff diving) at -- I think -- Rick's American Cafe. Great trip.

Pat.
