I am confused… flying into Copenhagen, few days there, then on a cruise to Norway, round-trip from Copenhagen, flying back to the US.
There are 2 types of refund: a form from the seller that I take to the customs in the airport? What about Norway? No airport involved.
Tax-free shopping, but the check must be cashed somewhere in Norway when I am on the ship?
Also, will there be a custom check leaving Denmark on a cruise? We’ll have very limited time in the airport going home.
Need “VAT for dummies” manual

You must be planning to do a lot of shopping !!
I do not know about the VAT, but I do know that in 2008 Oslo beat out Tokoyo as the most expensive city in the world !!
This is why we are skipping Oslo
Let's see... 2 sons, 2 girlfriends, 2 parents, some close friends, and don't forget chocolates for co-workers. To get VAT refund we only need to spend 250 NOK that is like $50 - this is not much!
Yes, but it is per item.

Non, I found that website, and came here to ask questions as I didn't understand how exactly it works if I am on the cruise. Can you explain what that link says?
Will I have to find a ferry terminal? Will I be able to cash a check on the cruise ship? Will I be able to mail the form? Which out of the two choices is better?
Oh, somebody on another website posted this link, and it's the best explanation I could find anywhere, detailed and kinda step-by-step:
