I'd also like to know approx. cost/travel time of a taxi from central Vienna to the river cruise dock which I think is near the Vorgartenstr. U-bahn station, right? I'll be staying at the Hotel Bristol next to the Opera before my cruise.

Patty....Don't know tax time since I took the subway and you are correct...as you come out of the Vorgartenstr station, the "dock" is straight ahead......and most of the cruises otehr than day long sightseeing leave fom here..

Patty: Re: Vienna, BeachBoi is correct. The U-Bahn costs about 1.50 euros, which can be paid by credit card, and it's only a few stops to Vorgartenstrasse from downtown. Make sure you take the U1 line. Then an easy walk to the dock area. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Our plan is to take a taxi from the hotel to the ship with our luggage and use the U-bahn to go back and forth from the ship to central Vienna for the next 2 days. Unless you think the U-bahn would be relatively easy to negotiate with luggage (2 big pieces).

BeachBoi,
I'm staying at the Bristol courtesy of Starwood points. I could never 'afford' it otherwise

We did that in Barcelona last year and although I don't remember the cost it was moderate and the cab ride less that 30 min.
