We have been on many cruises all over the world, but have not done a transatlantic, also a repositioning cruise. Leaving April 20th. out of Miami on Celebrity for 16 days. Will be eight straight days at sea, then our first ports of call in the Canary Islands, Then Spain, France, two stops in Italy, ending in Rome. Just want to know if you have done a transatlantic this time of year and what we are to expect weather wise on the eight straight days at sea. Also open to hear just about your general experience and any suggestions you can offer. Thanks in advance.

We done it twice once on Navigator and once on Jewel.
Weather was nice for both. The ship should have guest lectures, if you do any kind of needle work bring it there may be a gathering or ask guest services to set a time up. The activities staff will plan all kinds of stuff.
Just enjoy relaxing. 8 full days at sea is a kinda slow the time when we went we were 6 full days at sea.

We did it once in April and it was great. We needed a light jacket sometimes, but it was mostly sunny with pretty calm water. We loved it and plan do it again. I also liked that there was more time to get to know some of our shipmates.

I've never done Transatlantic, but from what I know on the subject it's simply the best way to sample a particular cruise ship. The Transatlantic cruise is a "sea intensive" itinerary, plus less crowded. We have done at least 10 on the Windstar/ Windsurf and enjoyed every minute. Meet new people, have time to reflect, study, snooze, eat , play, dance under the stars, great entertainment, get to know everyone, etc. Go for it.

We just did a fall transatlantic - Nov./Dec. Southampton-Ft. Lauderdale and loved it! It was our 3rd and best trannie. We were on Celebrity Constellation and loved the ship, food excellent, entertainment spectacular, what more can I say. However, as far as the weather this time of year can't comment as we have only done fall transatlantics.

We docked Canary Islands also, loved it there. Beautiful scenery, etc. We got off the ship and were walking towards town and were approached by many taxi drivers. We decided to do a tour w/ the last driver that approached us and were so glad we did! We had a wonderful tour of Mt. Teide, and stopped at a seaside resort town on way back to ship. He was an excellent driver and knew the history of the island as well. I can give you the name of a tour guide there also. There is a tour that goes to Mt. Teide then a winery that people took.

we are booked on a repositioning from Barcelona to New Orleans leaving on Nov 1. Great prices and hopefully will be a good cruise. It is on Carnival.

Going on a repositioning Holland America in march, from Ft Lauderdale to Barcelona. We are also concerned about weather and rough sea. We wonder what cloths to pack. Help would be appreciated.

Dress warm, average temperature in Barcelona would be around 55 F in March. Inside the ship, you will be fine. On an open deck, with wind chill, you better have a heavier jacket.

Did our transatlantic in April on Carnival with 5 days at sea. That was a MAJOR concern for me but weather was great, it's always time for food, lots to do and I went quickly.

Last April, we sailed the 16 day Miami to Rome on Celebrity Reflection with two stops in the Canary Islands, Barcelona, southern France (did excursion to Aix) , Livorno (excursion to Pisa and Florence) and disembarkation in Rome. The weather was pleasant - short sleeves most days. We ran into some choppy weather so the captain detoured south as much as possible to miss it without getting behind schedule - we had a few days of seeing a lot of people wearing seasickness patches behind their ears, feeling the rocking more than usual, and I lost my appetite one day, but otherwise it was no big deal. Rainy in both Florence and Rome, but not enough to stop us from having a god time. This was our first cruise on a large ship and I was worried about being bored with all the sea days, but there was so much activity on board, that I was never bored. It did help that I used the gym every day and love to read. We liked it so much that we are doing another transatlantic this spring, this time on HAL - chosen because of the timing to start a land tour, not because we did not love Celebrity.

On sea days, you just slept in, have a late breakfast, wander around, lunch, hang out at the open deck for fresh air or catch whatever activities or entertainment available. Some choose to gamble in the casino or relax at the spa, and next thing you know, it's already dinner time. Catch a production show or dance the night away after dinner, maybe take in a magic show or stand up comic, next thing you know, the week is gone!

we love it. sea days are fantastic... shore days really depend on the ports.---your ports look decent.

remember you do not have to go ashore!!

I already am looking at another transatlantic for next spring.

warning about rome port... the ships dock at a remote pier so arrange your p/u in advance..

bob's limo is fantastic and picks you up right outside...
it's 45 min to 1 hr to the airport and 45 min into rome.

private transport far cheaper than ship's options. we have bob's for 105E to the airport for 4 of us. last year the ship was 89E each
