Time in ports?
I'm researching an Alaska cruise and am noticing that the ports usually had a good amount of time slotted for them, but there's a note saying that disembarkation usually begins two hours after docking, and they want you back on the boat two hours before you need to leave. So, how long do you actually have to stay at a location? If you arrive at 2 pm and leave at 10, do you really only have four hours to spend there?

Not sure where you get that info from. If the ships docks at 2 pm and leave at 10 pm, you should have almost 8 hours as you won't get off right at 2 pm, but probably within 15 minutes of that, and you don't want to be the last one back at 10 either. So you should get 7+ hours.
They will tell you what time you must be back by when you get off the ship. Go with that time.

What cruise line has this 2 hour requirement? I have never heard of that. I typically cruise on Princess and passengers can leave the ship once it has been cleared by local authorities (usually after about 1/2 hour or so) All aboard is almost always 1/2 hour before scheduled departure time. There will be a sign as you leave the ship saying what all aboard time is. If you are worried about timing then book tours with the cruise line as the ship will wait if a Princess tour has not yet arrived back at the ship where if you are on a private tour there will be no ship waiting.

In over a dozen cruises on several different ships we have never had those kinds of hours. Generally it is within an hour of docking unless it is very early in the morning and 30 minutes prior to departure. We have cut it close a couple of times (within 10 minutes) but ships are very strict about leaving on time. Have seen passengers left behind.
