Taking alcohol on board.
I know you can take wine but I don't drink wine. I know they will also take any of the alcohol they catch you with at security, but what is security like? Will I have to take my boots off to walk through the scanner? Can I just put a plastic bottle of booze in my boot and get on board? What happens if they do catch me with it? Royale Caribbean Cruise coming up quick.

You can do whatever you want but there are no guarantees and normally you don't have to take you shoes off.
As for security they will most likely find hard spirits unless you get lucky which is unlikely.
Also do you want to risk being caught trying to smuggle booze on board? Have you considered the embarrassment and that they will most likely go thru all your luggage and is this how you want to start your cruise, just to save a few bucks?
Just relax. You're on vacation. Spend a few bucks more for booze or look into buying some for use in your cabin from Royal. You can do this and it's hassle free.

First off, smuggling booze on board is wrong but people do it all the time and people got caught all the time.
Larry, I knew of people who strapped zip-lock bags of alcohol into their body to get on board as the scanners are metal detectors only. Water bottle in a back pack usually avoids detection as they do not open it or smell it. The security check usually looks for weapons (guns and knifes) and power bars (seriously!). But then they would walk kind of funny and get easily picked out in the security line.
My son usually buys a six pack of water and take it on board. I also knew of people who bought 6 pack of water, empty the content and filled them with vodka. They usually check to see if the "seal" had been broken.
You will see "bottles" that were "captured" and typically, they will tag it for you to retrieve after the cruise, provided that the bottles were factory sealed and in original containers. As to the other ones, they were dumped.
They also x-ray the checked bags and they will take the bottles and leave you with a note or claim slip. You get a slip if only the bottle is factory sealed.
Some cruise line has openly stated that they reserve the rights to bar you from boarding the ship if you were caught smuggling booze. Don't know how often this happened though as I have not personally witnessed it.
I read an article a while back that a blogger documented his "trials and tribulations" on smuggling booze on board. Some of the ideas were quite hilarious, such as tapping money to the bottle. The reasoning being there are only so many variation of outcomes.
1. the handler may take the bribe, the bottle get through.
2. The handler didn't want to touch the money and let it through.
3. The handler don't know what to do and let it through.
4. The handler took the bottle and leave a note with the money.
5. The handler took both.
6. The handler was insulted and open the sunscreen and after shave bottles and left them inside the suitcase.
It is always good for a laugh when you see people trying to do stupid things.

I am all for saving some money and am reasonably frugal in my daily life - which partly allows me to travel. But I am always confused when people want to know about saving a relatively small amount of money while on a trip - taking public transit with 3 suitcases to save a $20 cab, giving advice on how to liberate food from a buffet for another free meal, and smuggling booze.

After I told him not to, my husband once distributed plastic airline size bottles throughout his luggage. He did get away with it, but this was also on Carnival, where they take will take the liquor, but don't seem to get very upset about it. RC may take it more seriously.
Why take the chance that you might not be permitted to board?

Speaking of smuggling I read a story in an Indian paper many yrs. during one of our visits. A man wearing a turban was coming home from Dubai and customs noticed he had trouble holding his head straight. Well he had put so much gold in his turban it was too heavy for his head to support.
