I would like to get advice from some of you experienced "cruisers" out there. My husband, brother, his wife and myself are booked for the March 29th cruise on Celebrity's new ship the Summit. The itinerary is the southern caribbean. My concern is that we might have problems with kids/teens due to spring break. I have been reading these boards and others and the general concensus that I have found is that parents let their kids due whatever they want. I read a post on cruisecritic.com from a couple whose vacation was totally ruined by unruly teens and their behavior. How unfortunate for them. (Not sure what month they cruised) They were on RCCL and I know that RCCL offers a lot of amenities for all age types. I think that is wonderful. We chose Celebrity (owned by RCCL) as it appeared to cater to a bit more older crowd. Is this true? Has anyone sailed on Celebrity during spring break? Should we consider changing our sail date? Lastly, let me say that I am the mother of a 19 year old college student and I am not against sailing with children or teens at all. I'm just hoping that parents with kids respect the fact that there are other travelers who wish to enjoy their hard earned vacations too. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions you might have. Thank you!

We have cruised at Spring Break ( mid March for us ) many times and have never had a problem with unruly teens. Our last cruise was on Celebrity and there were a lot of families on board but other than the pool being a bit crowded there was no downside to having the students on board. You are correct that the median age will be a bit higher. Another factor is that the cost may be a bit more and that tends to lower the number of children. The newer Celebrity ships are designed with a lot of different "common areas" so it is easy to find quieter space for anyone that wants it. have a wonderful cruise!
Dear Marilyn...
Thank you for your reply. I hope others will reply as well. Its difficult to know what time of year is the best time to cruise. I know summer can get hot and humid and the fall you have the hurricanes to contend with, so we chose spring as that was best for all of us. Again, thanks for the info, and if anyone else out there has some great suggestions for shore excursions in St Maarten, St Kitts, ST Lucia and Barbados I would love to hear from you.
Thanks...
Mar.29 on Celebrity--no problem...the cost of Celebrity is mostly cost prohibitive and not the type of cruise most Spring breakers would want--they'd go for CARNIVAL...go and have a wonderful time. Haven't looked at the calender-but if it is during EASTER you may also have more children due to families travelling with their kids--and Celebrity has a kids camp and they're usually never in your way. Did Celebrity this past Thanksgiving on the Century- my 2nd Celebrity cruise and I loved it. FOod is terrific-ports were great and people were friendly--couldn't ask for anything more. For a larger cruise line,it is excellent.
