Starting in Amsterdam

I would like to take my daughter on a cruise beginning in Amsterdam. I just need one day to visit the Anne Frank House. Anyone know of a line other than the big ones. Maybe a Dutch line?

There are many cruises which spend a day or two in Amsterdam, but I don't know of any which start there except for the river cruises. On the other hand, many Fodorites report good information available on cruisecritic.com.

Sorry to tell you apart from Holland America Line (that sails under dutch flag but belongs to Carnaval cruise lines) there are no dutch cruise-lines.
Prinsendam of HAL has some sailings from Amsterdam, but that is rather high priced.
Leaving from Amsterdam in summer are also e.g.Century of Celebrity, Costa Lines and MSC cruises.

In 2006 I cruised on HAL's Rotterdam. The ship actually sailed out of Rotterdam, Netherlands, which is less than an hour and half from Amsterdam.

I flew into and stayed in Amsterdam prior to the cruise. I did my sightseeing in Amsterdam (incl: Anne Frank's house) On day of sailing, the cruise line had an excellent transfer to the ship in Rotterdam set up at another hotel in Amsterdam, that was just a short taxi ride away from my hotel. (Or you could go back to the airport)

So.... what I am saying is that Rotterdam is also a possible departure point for you to cruise from.

I sailed from Amsterdam on Holland America's Prinsendam. I love this ship. It holds only 700 passengers . . . so much better (for me) than the megaships with thousands of people.

Amsterdam is a wonderful city. In addition to the Ann Frank House, there is also the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum, both of which are definitely worth your time. We also took the train to Delft and The Hague. It was really easy and we enjoyed both cities very much.

We are thinking about the 8/21 Prinsendam sailing out of Amsterdam. We think the itinerary is very nice, just some concerns about the size of the ship.

There are numerous companies that start river cruises in Amsterdam...we've been on two and they are superb, check them out!
