We have taken this cruise twice; in July 1998 and again in 1999. We are Australian and just loved it. The crew are most Philippino and so good. One thing we really appreciated is NO TIPPING. And I mean no tipping - no pre-paid gratuities and no envelopes and the service is fantastic. I must say that I have not cruised another line so I cannot compare. The cabins were quite small - we had what was then called an Admiral - they call them superior outside now I think. Deck 4 5 and 6 have these cabins; the mini suites might be nice. I don't think there are balcony suites. The ship was refurbished quite recently. this is a destination cruise and the ports of call are great. We have been to many of the Asian countries previously but still enjoyed it very much. The middle of the year is probably best for this part of the world. The Ocean Palace a la carte restaurant is really top class; we eat out a lot and found the food here to be superb. The wine prices were also very reasonable. The buffet - Mariners - was OK for this style of food. The shows were probably not glitzy like you might be used to on an American cruise liner. Remember this ship only has about 800 passengers. They do take on entertainment from the ports though - for example when you are in Phuket (what a brilliant place) the Simon Cabaret which is resident at Phuket come on board and do a show prior to the ship sailing at about midnight.
One absolutely great thing about the Gemini is no allocated seating; you just rock up to the restaurant - very occasionally they will be full; you just have a drink and hey presto you're there. They also serve breakfast and lunch in the Ocean Palace (lunch is not on there for a couple of days because of tours but mostly it is).

We have not been on other cruise liners . BUT next week we are going on the Rhapsody of the Seas to Alaska and in August we will be doing the Crown Odyssey from barcelona to Istanbul so then I will be able to compare.

To sum up, to us the SuperStar Gemini is fabulous value; wonderful service, wonderful food, smallish cabins (but how long do you spend there) fabulous destinations and would we go again - we are doing the SuperStar Aries next July out of Bangkok.
    Hope this helps.
