Sightseeing in San Juan after boarding ship in San Juan
My husband and I have cruised before but never out of San Juan. After we board the ship (we're taking Adv of Seas - RCCL) can we get back off again to explore Old San Juan? If so, how does that work? We are planning on getting to the ship at noon, so we should have plenty of time to explore since it doesn't leave until 10:00 pm. Also, any advice on what not to miss while in Old San Juan and walking around? Thanks!

Unless you are overweight or have some walking disability, you can walk to all of Old San Juan from the ships (if you are docked on the side closest to the town - some ships are docked on the other side of the pier and it adds about a mile or two to the walk).<BR><BR>Anyway, Don't expect to many good deals on Jewelry - it is much more expensive than St. Thomas or St. Maarten.<BR><BR>Butterfly world is neat (and free) to see. Also, El Morro (fort) is neat to see. there is also another fort on the other side of the old town, but I never walked all the way to it.

You'll have plenty of time to explore the old fort and the surrounding shops, restaurants and bars. Old San Juan is compact, but you'll probably need to take a taxi to the area from your ship (depending upon where your ship docks). There may not be bargains on jewelry, but I got a great deal on an expensive purse I'd been admiring back home (FL). Have fun!

We took the local ferry (right along the harbor, at Old San Juan, I think it was Pier 3) across the harbor, then a jitney bus to the Bacardi Rum Factory<BR><BR>Then do the trip in reverse to get bact. The whole thing for 2 was about $10-$15, and took about 3 hours. The Bacardi does close about 5 pm so plan accordingly, then you can walk around the old city. Have Fun.
