Lori - I was in Alaska in May on the
Sea Princess at the same ports. I don't
know how long your ship will be in each port, so here are some suggestions.
In Ketchikan - there are a couple of things that were very good - the Misty Fjords cruise and flight sightseeing tour - that was worth every penny I paid
we cruised in and flew out. The scenery and the wildlife were fantastic.
Also the Totem tour that takes you out
to the Saxman Village was very good - my
friend went on that one as she didn't want to get on a seaplane! In Juneau
there is so much to do - I highly recommend a helicopter tour either to
Mendenhall glacier or Taku glacier (which is less traveled). Also, if the
weather is nice (ie clear or no fog )
take the Mt. Roberts tram up to the top.
There are some hiking trails, stores,
restraunt and theater up there along
with spectacular views of the ships in
the harbor. Also, if you have time a
wildlife cruise around Juneau is worth
the money (as you can see I spent a lot
of time in Juneau (over 12 hours).
In Skagway - if you are into trains take
the White Pass railroad to the summit -
it's about a 3 hour trip and the views
are spectacular - the only downside about this is the return trip is a little boring. There were some tours that took you one way on the railroad
and the other on the highway. As for
shopping, Ketchikan was probably a little more expensive than the other
two, but bring plenty of film from home
it goes for about $8 a roll in all the
ports. Have fun on your trip - it will
be one of the highlights of your life.
