We are doing a Royal Caribbean cruise out of Barcelona in May on the Liberty of the Seas.
We have never been to that area before and was wondering about suggestions of "must see" scenic places on our stops in Provence (Toulon) and Villefranche (Nice).
Would you suggest taking anh of the cruises shore excursions or has anyone had experience just taking local transportation or private tours in these areas?
We have already booked 3 private tours for the Italy ports with a company that a friend recommended, rather then doing the cruise ships excursions. It was a bit pricey, but hopefully it will be worth it.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Take a public bus, 1Euro to Nice, 20 minutes or so.
Loads of things to do in and around Nice, and the public transport is great. Take a look at a guidebook for the area, or go over to the Europe board and read some TRs. Private tour totally unnecessary.
