shore excursions

will be in cabo san lucas, maxatlan and puerto vallarta in Oct. on Hollan america cruise. Is it better to book their excursions or do it on my own, and if so what is the best way to do that. Should we take (4 in our party) a cab from airport or use the cruise line service? ny help will be appreciated. Thanks
