Absolutely too tight. The rule of thumb is no flights before noon. It is possible in some ports to make an earlier time but certainly not in Rome and not at that time. If you can't get a later flight you need to spend an extra day. Otherwise you will be spending an extra day because of a missed flight. That way you can relax and enjoy instead of worrying about missing the flight.

Absolutely out of the question. But just to prove it. There is a 45 min check in cut off at Rome. That is 8 AM. It is an hour drive from the entrance to the airport. That is 7 AM. From the time the ship docks to you can get off can be upwards to an hour. Assuming all your luggage is carry on -- that is 6AM. Another 15 to 20 mins getting to the port entrance and assuming a shuttle bus in there to take you to port entrance. Closer to 5:30. Take the train into Rome and enjoy the city and have an easy flight the next morning.

ParrotMom, when are you going to be in Rome? We will be in Rome from Oct 18 to 20 after the cruise, and we are booked into Hotel Quirinale in Rome.

Hotel Sonya is our favorite hotel in Rome - great breakfast. You always have to be careful about pickpockets but don't know if it is any worse in Rome or Athens than many other places. We have done nearly a year's worth of travel in Europe with never a problem using normal precautions. Be careful but don't be paranoid.

Pick pockets are everywhere. Any type of large handbags, messenger bags etc, or things that will ID you as tourist (like your camera) would make you a target.

Our camera and camera bag has a steel wire going through it and with all of the travelers special wallets, etc. Parrot Pop has and my safety pinning change purses in my bag..(we don't carry our passports with us touring) and the fact I try to be alert and keep an eye open.. I even have a word that I use to let him know of any possibiliities.. FMPDEN thank you.. most people seem to be staying at the airport, etc. but I had chosen this place because...and I have no idea why probably because other people had mentioned it was family owned. Because of the recommendation of the Hotel Continental in Barcelona on t his board I like to pass things on..
