looking at 2012 with Seabourn on the Adriatic. 1 is 7 days only Venice to Athens
1 is Venice to Turkey 11 days and 1is 14 or 15 days Venice to Malaga Spain. We like smaller ships hence Seabourn - small but still classy. Is it dressy like coat and tie for dinner? We have done Regent and Windstar neither had dress up for dinner but you couldn't go in jeans either. It was a nice compromise. Anyone????? Would love some feedback

Generally on the smaller ships I have been on
casual dressy no coat tie but always pack 1 just in case
Big ones have "formal night" where they play "dress up"
so do bring one for sure on those except NCL where

Silversea is dressy, especially at dinner. I have seen men in tuxedos and white dinner jackets even when it wasn't a "formal night." They don't allow passengers in public spaces if not dressed appropriately. We had to have dinner in our room because our luggage was lost and my husband didn't have a jacket! It wasn't such a hardship, because they serve dinner course by course and bring two bottles of wine to your suite (red & white).
Seabourn has eased up on the formal dress, but there are still those who will dress to the nines for dinner, even when it's not formal. Crystal is also pretty dressy. I was just on Crystal Symphony in Alaska I and was surprised to see how dressed up people were, even on casual nights ... although, inevitably, there were those who showed up in jeans. If you don't want to dress up all the time, stay away from these cruise lines. Go for Regent or Oceania or Sea Dream Yacht Club.
thanks for info. We really like the itinerary of Seabourn and really enjoy dressing up but hate to pack formal wear. I like the idea of eating in suite on formal nites.
shar, look at my other post for another reply. As for how formal it is, it certainly is formal. Our cruise was 16 days with 2 formal nights and the rest smart casuall. Most men wore tuxes and ladies gowns. Douring the day, even by the pool, people were well dressed or resort dressed.
We decided on Regent which does Adriatic and part of Italy - 10 days in May We have cruised with them before and enjoyed them a lot - especially the free drinks, stocked bar in your suite. Not so formal but nice. May seems so far away!
