Radisson/Alaska
Hi. Anybody have info on Radisson's Alaskan cruise? Will we be dressing for dinner? I am hoping it is more casual. The accomodations look lovely...I hope the ship is as inviting as the pictures! The one thing I am concerned about is that the Alaskan ports of call are swarming with tourists. I am thinking the wilderness is going to be crowded in July! What do you think?
Thanks!

Go to cruisecritic.com and go on the radisson board. There is lots of good info on all the rssc cruises and you can also ask questions. I just got back from a rssc caribbean cruise a month ago and had gotten all my info from that board.

In answer to the first question by bershc5 back in May, I just returned from the Radisson's Mariner in Alaska last week. The ship and Alaska were both fantastic! As far as dressing for dinner goes, everynight was called country club casual except the second night. They added the word "jacket" to the description in the newsletter for that night. Which really means "informal".
About half the men wore jackets everynight at Compass Rose. The women wore nice slacks or capris or skirts with sweaters or fancy tops. I wore a skirt on 2 nights. If anything, I would error on the dressier side when making decisions on clothing for dinner. You do need a jacket for either Signatures or Latitudes.
The ship was beautiful and very warmly decorated. The food was super as was the service.
The ports didn't seem too busy because so many people are out on excursions. There is no way the wilderness in Alaska will be crowded. It is way too big!!

Ginny (gopack) we are interested in the Radisson cruise next year leaving June 22 to Alaska. The only thing we are concerned about are the mosquitoes. We have heard some war stories. Did you have any problems with bugs on the cruise? We also plan to do a post-cruise tour up to Denali and then Fairbanks. Did you do that also? I read your review of the cruise on cruisecritic.com. It was very informative. Thanks.

When I cruised on the Mariner to Alaska we did not have any formal nights. Country Club casual every night. The ship was fantastic and I agree about Signatures! It is so worth taking a jacket so you can dine there! We were there in July '03 and I never got one mosquitoe bite...maybe just lucky??
P.S. For a woman in Signatures a nice pantsuit works fine...nothing dressier needed.

Travellover,
Just saw your question about mosquitoes in Alaska. We never saw a mosquito but we also did not go hiking in the wilderness. None in Anchorage or any of the cities/ports that we were in.
We didn't have time to go to Denali but we took a flightseeing ride up to the top of it. It was the most exciting thing I have done. It was fantastic. The company was Rust's flightseeing out of the Anchorage airport. If we had more time, we definitely would have driven to Denali. Next time!
If you have anymore specific questions, please ask!
