The latest news are that the currently owned by the Dubai's "Istithmar" holding QE2 ship is to be finally sold (luckily not for scrap) to another investment company from Singapore (Oceanic Group). I totally agree with those guys on the website about the Carnival lines Mardi Gras ship scrapping case - it's a shame to scrap the ocean liner history for cheap money when you can profit from these vessels even more by refitting them into hotels or museums. Thes are the info sources: I read about the QE2 ship news on this website
http://www.queenelizabethcruises.net/qe2-queen-elizabeth-2-ship/
but they obviously have it from the FT site at this link

it's a shame to scrap the ocean liner history for cheap money when you can profit from these vessels even more by refitting them into hotels or museums.
And that takes MONEY and assurance that the investment is going to MAKE money in the future.
My point exactly! I know cruise ships got life-span 30-40 something years, and they have to die, but to scrap a history ship is a stupidity - nothing less! No company will build another authentic design oceanic passenger liner soon - Cunard was just the last line with rms Queen Mary 2 - too expensive, too risky. And you just think about this fact - I googled Carnival Mardi Gras cruise and check this result on 1st page http://www.shipcruise.org/carnival-cruise/556-carnival-cruise-mardi-gras
Not that it is something very special as content, but it's a top result, so contemplate this:
1 - Mardi Gras IS the world's absolutely most famous carnival (it is)
2 - there are numerous Mardi Gras cruises (by different lines and to diff ports) in Brazil is the most famous (the Rio carnival), New Orleans is second, etc.
3 - the company name is CCL - Carnival Cruise by Fun Ships.
4 - their absolutely first cruise ship ever had the name Mardi Gras
5 - scrapped!
Now you tell me is this a very stupid decision or what?!
