Promotions/price reductions after booking deposit

Very excited we put our deposits down for our Alaskan cruise for July 2008. We've heard to keep our eyes open for any promotions/price reductions and let our travel agent know. Obviously, early July is the height of the season, but will be alert. Anyone have experience taking advantage of price cuts? If so, is the refund in the form of shipboard credit or ??? Thanks for any insights.

This coming up cruise we have a ship board credit. Other times I was credited my chargecard. Maybe it depends on the cruiseline. I am planning RCCL in Dec.

With July Alaska sailings, usually the deals come after final payment, which you are not likely to get.

I booked a second trip this past July in May, paying the same as the May trip.

This year did have more in season bargains compared to prior years. But again, these were mostly available only to those who late booked.

Be especially agressive in your tracking trends, a couple weeks prior to your final payment, deals may come out a few days prior if a lot of space is turned back in.

Thanks for your advice, BudgetQueen. That makes sense to be vigilant right before the 75-day mark. It will be interesting to see what happens, but am glad to be booked. It will be a bonus if we do get any money back, but not expecting anything.

We did a Mexico cruise in November that we booked about ten months prior. We booked three cabins for our kids and family and a suite for us.

The price on the kid's cabin went down before the final deposit was due and our travel agent made the adjustment.

I think on the three cabins we saved almost $800.

That's another reason to use a travel agent.
