Norwegian Gem

My wife and I cruised on the Caribbean Princess a few years ago and had a good time and found the passengers to be in a more middle age bracket than younger. Rough seafrom St John to Bar Harbor made us both sea sick but with bracelets and pills we will be prepared this time. . We are planning a return cruise for next June or July out of NYC and the only line available appears to be Norwegian. Can anyone tell us about the Norwegian Gem and the type of cruisers we would typically find on the Gem? We are two very active seniors 70 & 72 but don't do a lot of drinking and partying.

The Gem is one of my favorite ships catering to all age groups. If you sail in the summer months you will find more children aboard.

We've sailed it Easter week purposely because we went with family including grandchild. Lots of kids on board but well behaved.
Otherwise we saw people of all ages. Can't say there was a predominance of any specific age group.
We loved the ship and the free style which Norwegian offers.

There are quite a few options to sail from NYC. Norwegian, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity offer year-round sailings from either Manhattan or NJ. Princess offers some seasonal sailings from Brooklyn. I'm not sure where you are searching for cruises, but there are weekly departures from the first four and (especially in the summer) also from Princess.

There are some itineraries that are slightly longer 10- or 12-day sailings, so I'm sure there is an occasional week when one or the other line doesn't have a sailing, but I'm sure most lines sail weekly.
