Norwegian - a tale of a disappearing cruise :(

2 days ago on Expedia I found my dream cruise. I use Expedia for a look-up, and I have a printed page to show that I am not crazy

Today I went to NCL website to look up cabins. The cruise is not there!! Back to Expedia, the cruise is not there!! Checked the page, maybe I didn't see the year properly, it's easy to mistake 2015 for 2016. NOPE.

The cruise would be on NCL Dawn - on NCL website I see only one cruise in September 2015 - one 7-night cruise in the whole month, this can't be right?

Trying to find the cruise out of Boston leaving Sept 11, 2015 going to Quebec. Where do I look for help? Don't want to call them as I always make my own reservations and like to have all printed - prefer writing over a word on the phone.

If you call them, you could ask your questions about booking online.
Or you could book with them over the phone and get a printed confirmation.

My first reaction was that it was a typo on the part of Expedia. A little more digging revealed that I think your cruise exists, despite not being on NCL's website, because the Dawn is leaving from Quebec City on Oct 2, bound for Boston.

This could mean it's sold out, except for a few cabins in the hands of those middleman sites, OR it could mean it's a specialty cruise not advertised to the general public. Or NCL could be asleep at the switch.

http://cruiseweb.com/NCL-CANADA-SHIP2.HTM Found it on Cruiseweb, too. Honestly, I'd call Norwegian. They won't make you book over the phone, and that way you can at least find out exactly what's going on.

Nobody knows what's going on - on Cruise Critic roll call somebody posted that all September 2015 is wiped out. I will call them later.

Generally, if a cruise is sold out, it's listed with "call us" note. An existing cruise is never deleted.

I do not always book with them but the vacationstogo.com website is fantastic for finding all cruises available, not just their 90 day sticker, last minute ones.

Go to vacationstogo VTG. You may have to join to access the site. Free and easy.
In the box on the upper left, plug in your date month, the cruise line and the ship, then, show me the deals.

When I did that, your cruise popped right up, but is listed as sold out. You could call VTG to be sure or to see if there are any cancellations.

Just FYI, I find many sites like Expedia do not get their adds changed and updated quickly. VTG updates theirs every day.

Called the cruise line directly - the cruise is sold out completely. I never knew they take sold out cruises off.

Now we'll have to decide, wait till mid-June to see if there are cancellation at the time of final payments, or make other arrangements.

Dayenu, if you want to be on that cruise that badly, you can always book with someone who still have it listed (i.e. have inventory)

Looks like Norwegian Dawn is sold out for most of September. That must be a lovely cruise for seeing leaf color.

You might go to the roll call on cruisecritic.com for that cruise and ask if anyone is considering canceling, to let you know before they do, so you could step in and book it. Sometimes a group or family is going and someone backs out at the last minute.

Someone on cruisecritic suggested contacting Skyscraper Tours and asking if they have any cabins available on sold out cruises.

Also, there is a SoldOutShips segment of cruisecompete.

Call the line directly and try to get on a waitlist. Deposit is refundable if you do not get on. They may already have too long of a waitlist, but you never know. I just read that 15% of people end up canceling before sailing.

I saw that happen with our cruise we had booked on Expedia and it did disappear from all websites when it sold out. When cabins opened up it would pop back up again, so keep watching! (Cabins did open up after the drop dead date for full payment).

Cruises may also be pulled down if the ship is chartered and is not open to the public for general booking. I can't begin to say why this particular cruise might have been taken down, but it's likely a large partial charter, perhaps an incentive group.

Dayenu Holland America has a 7 day out of Boston leaving on the 12th of Sept. It is just one way disembarking in Montreal.

I meant to add that you could do a back to back on that one if your's was a 14day out of Boston it would probably have the same ports.

Follow-up: we decided not to wait till September, and instead taking a Montreal-Boston HAL cruise in June. I have only one month for reservations, research, preparations. This is the closest I've ever done it, and I hope I'll have enough time.

I'll be posting about GTGs a bit later.
