NCL In Talks To Buy Oceania And Regent...............

NCL buying into the Luxury market, should be interesting.

"Norwegian Cruise Line, the world's third largest cruise operator, is in advanced talks to acquire peer Prestige Cruises International Inc for around $3 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.

A deal would give Norwegian Cruise, a company with a market value of $6.8 billion, access to Prestige Cruises' luxury cruise ships and affluent clientele as it competes with bigger rivals Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd and Carnival Corp.

Miami-based Norwegian Cruise operates 13 cruise ships in routes spanning North America, the Mediterranean, the Baltic, Central America and the Caribbean.

Prestige Cruises, also based in Miami, operates under the Oceania and Regent brands, which together have eight cruise ships traveling to Scandinavia, Russia, the Mediterranean, North America, Asia, Africa and South America

Carnival, Royal Caribbean Cruises and Norwegian Cruise together account for 82 percent of the North American cruise passenger berth capacity, according to Prestige Cruises' initial public offering registration document."

I read about this one. To be honest, I like globalization of businesses. I know it's killing the small and medium ones, but it leads to more affordable prices and standardization.

With the cost of our money going down on a monthly basis, buying off cruising businesses is a great strategy - people spend more on vacations these days.

I think it's a bold move and will up NCL's stock in the industry.

Many yrs. ago NCL had terrible ratings but give them credit as they have improved tremendously.

How will it affect Oceania and Regent, much more highly respected cruise lines?

Sorry, read some of the reviews of those Regent cruises before you start talking about "respected."
