Monarch or Galaxy -- Can't decide

We have narrowed our choices down to Celebrity's Galaxy and RCCL's Monarch of the Seas for a Caribbean cruise in January 2001. Does anyone have an opinion as to which we should take and why? Thanks. Caryn

Caryn,
Hi, I am a travel agent and have done a lot of research on the two ships. I have booked myself for November on the Galaxy. The ship is newer then Monarch and itinerary is almost the same.
I ahve had clients on both ships and most prefer the Galaxy over Monarch. The Galaxy is larger and I feel has more to offer the Monarch. Staterooms are larger and offer a safe, robes, hair dryers. No matter what deck you choose, you can not go wrong.
My personal opinion is to get an inside cabin mid ship. I am booked in catgy 9 midship. You can spend the extra money that you would have put on and outside cabin for other things. You are never in your cabin except for sleeping and dressing.
Feel free to email me for any other information that I can help you with.
If you are staying in San Juan, I suggest staying at Wyndham Old San Juan hotel which is right across from cruise port.

Thanks,
Kathy

We sailed the Monarch in May and we wish we had booked on Celebrity. The Monarch is older and the food and service wasn't as good as we were expecting.

We just returned 8/11/00 from the Inside Passage to Alaska aboard the Galaxy. This is our second cruise with Celebrity and like the commercial says "simply the best"! Everything was wonderful! We were on deck 10 and had a veranda as we were told the scenery would make the extra money worth it and that was absolutely correct! I don't think you can go wrong with Celebrity no matter where you are cruising.

I would choose Celebrity over RCI any day of the week & twice on Sunday. I've been on the Century & Mercury -Galaxy's sister ships and I've been on RCI's Grandeur. The Grandeur is a much newer RCI ship then the Monarch and I was very disapointed. The Galaxy is the next ship on my list.

Hi Caryn,
We sailed the Galaxy June'99 to Alaska also. It is one of the most beautiful ships I have sailed. You will love everything about Celebrity from the food to thee service to the staterooms. We were on the penthouse level in a suite and the service was supurb. I am sailing the Carnival Celbration in June'00 and from what I hear everyone say I will be disapointed comparing it to Celebrity, but this is supposed to be a trip for my daughter who is a senior. Everything about Celebrity spells C-L-A-S-S. Have fun.
