Mediterranean Cruise in October
Hi, Fodor Friends! My husband and I are going on an incentive travel cruise in mid October to parts of the western Mediterranean. We will be on Splendour of the Seas. The travel company has excursions planned, but there may be some little neat things to do in some of these places that you may know and be willing to share. Bill and I are not as agile as we once were, so any suggestions of transportation would also be great. What I really love is to have a guide who personally takes you somewhere, but I don't know how to arrange those. Here is a list of our itinerary and length of stays in each.
Sailing Itinerary
Day Port Arrive Depart
Sat, Oct 18 Venice, Italy 4:50 p.m.
Sun, Oct 19 Kotor, Montenegro 2:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m.
Mon, Oct 20 Corfu, Greece 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m.
Tues, Oct 21 Athens, Greece 12:00 p.m. 8:30 p.m.
Wed, Oct 22 Mykonos, Greece 7:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.
Thurs, Oct 23 Argostoli, Greece 12:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m.
Fri, Oct 24 Cruising
Sat, Oct 25 Venice, Italy 6:45 a.m.
Thanks! I hope you know something and want to share.

My best suggestion is to go to www.cruisecritic.com and post these questions on the port boards. I think you will have a better chance of getting guide recommendations there.
The walk to the town in Mykonos may be challenging if you are not as agile as you once were so if you can arrange for a guide to meet you that would be good.
You can also search the internet. Just google "private guides Mykonos" for example and see what you get. You should be able to get guides this way. This is what I did for Rhodos and Kusadasi and it worked very well.
Have fun!!
Larry.

Excellent guide for Athens is:
Dionisis ( Dennis) Kokkotos
email is: [email protected]
I had him and he was terrific.
He will know guides for other places that you might need.
For Mykonos your cruise ship should have a shuttle that takes you to the base of the hill that gently leads up to Mykonos town.
The shuttle will drop you off here because he cannot go any further up.
( Can I hijack your thread for a minute. Thank You)
Hi Larry , hope all is going well, my Sciatica is as bad as ever. Take Care)

We took a similar cruise in the spring and it started and ended in Venice. The only two ports we stopped in as you were Kotor and Corfu-ours went to Malta, Sicily, etc. You can walk into Kotor easily. My husband climbed to the top of the hill which took over an hour. The views when you sail into Kotor are beautiful. Corfu was a favorite stop and taxis are right there where you dock and will get you into town for 10 euros. The town is pretty with lots of shopping. Will you fly into Venice or arrive by train? We flew in and stayed a few days pre-cruise--took the Alilaguna boat to get near our hotel. We left by train and it was a bit of effort to get from cruise terminal to Santa Lucia train station. There is a bridge with many steps that must be crossed but fortunately porters are available for a reasonable fee. If you leave Venice by air the cruise ship will probably have a bus--for a fee I suppose--at least Celebrity had one near the terminal.

We had good luck with Athens Private Tours, even though one of us was mobility impaired and one of our group was suffering from the onset of ALS and was mobility impaired. Somehow they managed to assemble our group from two ships, in the midst of a taxi strike, and get us to our tour and, eventually, our hotels.
