Le Ceiba hotel in Cozumel?
I am going on carnival next month. After reading frommer's cruising, they mention the hotel Le Ceiba renamed El Cid Resorts Cozumel as a place to go to use their facilities for $5.00 instead of a shore excursion. Anyone ever do this? Is it worth it?

I've been to Cozumel 20+ times in the past 10 years and I hate La Ceiba.

If you want a nice relaxing shore excursion, try another property owned by this same chain, Plaza Los Glorias.

The beach is free and they have a dive shop on site.

They have a sandy area with palm tree umbrellas and chairs to sit under with a full menu for eating/snacking.

A bucket of Corona's is $10. There is a large swimming pool with a swim-up bar, a kiddie pool, volleyball and the perfect place for snorkeling -- but that depends if you have children.

Cozumel is on a reef and unless a hotel spends a kabillion dollars to "import" a beach you can just jump off into 30-40 feet of water right from the dock, which is how PLG is set up. It is my favorite hotel in Cozumel and they don't nickel and dime you to death.

All you have to do to get there is hail a cab and say the name of the hotel. They should get you there for around $3 USD.
