Ketchikan, Alaska Misty Fjord seaplane options

My DH and I (in our 60's) want to take a seaplane in Ketchikan, Alaska during our cruise on Princess this July. I have read that perhaps a better option from going on the cruise sponsored excursion, would be hiring someone while in port as it might be a cheaper option.

The Princess website seaplane excursions in Ketchikan range from a 2 hr tour ($270/pp) to a 3.5 hr tour ($410/pp). The longer 3.5 hour tour includes a catamaran ride to start. My DH can get sea sick, so I don't know how smooth a ride the catamaran would be. Any suggestions as to the optimum length of the seaplane ride? Do they all land on fjord? We'd love to see some bears...is this possible on this excursion??

Thanks for any tips you may have!

We went with Islandwings.com 2 X. Michelle is excellent! She also offers a bear viewing excursion. We were picked up and dropped off outside the cruise terminal. All the flights seem to be in the same price range so you aren't going to find a bargain. They book quickly as well. We arranged our flights months in advance.

This was absolutely the most exciting thing we have ever done. Up close and personal with bears, beautiful scenery, the thrill of flightseeing.

Unfortunately, the bear viewing looks to be booked at islandwings.com

The catamaran is pretty smooth as I remember, but of course that partly depends on weather. It is a long trip, but very beautiful. We saw the planes landing in the Fjord, and were glad we took the slow route.
