Is Windstar worth the Money? Any experiences ????

We are trying to decide if we should sail our first cruise ever with Windstar.
Has any one sailed Wind Star especially in the Meditteranean? Is it worth the money...some comments indicate that it is over priced and ships need updating.....has anyone sailed RECENTLY? please tell us your experiences and what ships and itineries/excursions you took!!

hello. my girlfriend and i recently took a cruise on the windspirit on the southern carribean destinations. i had 1 other cruise experience on a large ship (princess cruises). we went on the windstar on advice from our travel agent because she knew we liked a more upscale and luxury experience. i will tell you what i thought the strong and weak points were. Windstar in known for its itineraries and i was told by other travelers on our ship who had been to the meditteranean that they had a wonderful experience. the ports we stopped at were very nice and free from the other big cruise ships. The best description i can use to describe the experience is relaxing.. there is no pressure to do anything. if you are looking for a ship with shows and formal dinner nights, this is definitely not for you. The food is absolutely incredible as well. you can eat when you want and with whom you want. I would agree that the ships need updating. the windspirit was supposed to be a newer ship, but i was disappointed when i first entered the ship. i don't know if i was expecting the grandness of the princess ship or what. the ship definitely needed some remoldeling work and much of the ship had a very used feeling versus that crisp new feeling. the cabins were a good size and very comfortable but again were pretty beat up. i don't want you to get the wrong picture here, and i don't mean to be too negative, but my only other comparison was the new princess ship-but after the windstar, i probably would never sail a big ship again. the food and the smallness of the crowd and the itineraries make it an incredible experience. i think my expectations were a bit too high though. there were only about 170 passengers on the ship and we never felt crowded. breakfast and lunch outside on the decks was a nice experience. the water sports platform was fun for us-water skiing, cayaking, etc. i also felt like the service overall was a bit better on princess. again, maybe i was expecting too much here. if you go, sign up for excursions early because space is limited and the good ones go fast, leaving you with bare bones to pick from !!!! we learned this the hard way. anyway, if you have any other questions, feel free to email me..
