Hiring suits

Further to my previous post about teen dress code we are now considering hiring a suit for our 16 year old son for the formal nights. He is growing so quickly all the time (tall and skinny) we don't really want to buy a suit or blazer especially. What is everyone's experience with hiring suits? Many thanks!

Another option is to try second hand shops near home. Our son thought that was cool, even though I have never shopped there before.

Do you mean renting a tux from the ship? That can easily be done unless of course your son doesn't think its "cool" BTW are you from down under? The term "hiring a suit" is not familiar to me. Is that an Aussie colloquialism?

Since I have my cruise tickets in front of me for next week's cruise, I can give you the prices if you wish.

This is for Celebrity:
Classic Black tuxedo---$85.00
Black formal shoes---$12.00
Vest and tie set-- $15.00

Send in measurements and the articles will be in your cabin waiting for you for the entire week's usage!

Good luck! Should make a nice family photo and great memory!!

Thanks - sorry, yes I did mean hiring a suit on the cruise. I am an aussie so I guess it must be an Australian colloquialism! Thanks for all your tips and feedback

When I saw "hiring suits", my first thought was that you wanted advice on hiring lawyers for your cruise! (While it might take a lawyer to talk a 16-year-old into wearing a tux, I'd still advise against it).

Good thing we all speak "English", huh?

Have a great cruise, Oz!

Thanks for the laughs guys! My son will be very impressed with your responses I'm sure. Having enough trouble getting him to dress up for school functions!

Being from Chicago "hiring suits" has a whole different meaning.

Hi ozcruiser - we had the same issue, but short and stocky! I went to two thrift stores and bought a grey suit for $5.00 and a black tux for $6.00. I have got to tell you, both suits were like brand new! I then spent $25.00 to have them both taken in at a dry cleaner....much cheaper than hiring a suit!
Have fun on your cruise! We are going again for Christmas and he has both suits to wear again!

If you call formal evening wear a suit, what do you call the kind of suit some men wear to work?
