Entertainment on the Star in Hawaii

Has anyone been on this ship lately? How is the entertainment, any good? How's the food?

I am sailing in a couple of days - will let you know when I get back. Anything else you want me to try and find out?

Patty: We'd also like your review when you get back as we may be doing a last-minute booking in June. Our last cruise was on the Regal Princess to Australia/New Zealand but we're looking forward to trying this new ship on NCL. We usually like suites; can you take a peek and give us an idea on best locations? THANKS!

I was on the 5/5 sailing and the entertainment was fantastic. Usually there are only one or two really good singer, but there are at least 7 excellent singers in the Jean Ann Ryan company dancers group. And the dancing is wonderful. There are also several great singers in the different lounges on board.

You will truly enjoy this cruise. The food is absolutely excellent, the waitstaff is up to speed, and the ship is stunning.

Try to get Condito for your waiter in the Versailles. He is sweet, funny, and he will play the piano for you. And you won't get better service from anyone.

Devon is also an excellent waiter.

But every waiter/waitress we had did a perfect job on this ship.

Remember to bring the patch if you are prone to seasickness as this ship rocks and rolls mightily every minute.

Laura - were you able to get your cruise at a reduced rate - I saw where you could book an inside at $299 for the 5/5 sailing?

Yes, Peter, we got that low rate! $159 for the cruise and $140 for the port charges. Booked through moments-notice.com.

Kwaj Girl,

I posted my review a few days ago on this site:

http://pub66.ezboard.com/fcruising78624frm12.showMessage?topicID=12.topic
You can also find it in the reviews section of the cruise-addicts site.

Buddy,

A wide range of entertainment is offered - there's a production show, comedy act, magic show, or acrobat show nightly in the Stardust Theater. The Tihati dancers perfomed polynesian dances and hula twice during the cruise in the Spinnaker Lounge. The show band played dance music on a couple of nights in various locations and there were at least 5 different musicians playing each night in the lounges.

The food was very good except I thought the lobster was some of the most rubbery I'd ever had (I should know not to order lobster on cruise ships by now but I always hope for the best). All of the other meals were great. Check my review - I've listed some of what I thought were the food highlights. Hope this helps.

Patty, so sorry about your lobster! Ours was perfect. Only thing we had that was just very good instead of excellent was the chicken parmesan. I wonder, did you have the lobster in the Versailles restaurant?

Patty: Thanks for the great review. We appreciate your insight in the fact that you really have so little time on the islands themselves. This looks like a cruise for people who really enjoy the ship rather than the ports!

Yes, we did eat in Versailles that night. After that night we switched to Aqua. I know the galley and menus are the same but we just couldn't get over the bad lobster experience. Plus it seemed like Aqua was not as busy.
