Trip Report Eastern Mediterranean cruise by Costa

Would not suggest this cruise line. Although the destinations were amazing and we saw all we expected to see, the ship itself was not what we thought. I will say the food was very good and the service was nice, but this was one of my two problems: beware it is an Italian cruise line and the Italians do like to smoke (I realize I'm generalizing here so don't take it personal if you're Italian). We had a room with a "view"/ balcony, but our daughter and her husband were across the hall without even a window and evidently there were smokers on either side or maybe just one side of them. They recked of cigarette smoke each morning and had headaches due to the constant smell. There was no smoking allowed in the dining rooms so that was a relief, but most everywhere else on the ship you couldn't avoid it. The second problem was the bed and although I was the only one of us 4 who experienced this the bed was so hard (and I like a firm bed) that I didn't sleep well at all and was pretty tired most of the time, so this probably jaded my experience somewhat.
Our servers where very attentive, funny and the entertainment from the dinner staff two nights was tremendously fun and entertaining.
The excursions where nice, however on one trip there were two guides because there were 2 language groups on our bus. The german guide talked at length and our guide only said about 3 sentences of information compared to the German guides' 10. We just felt we weren't getting the whole tour. Of course these tours are not by Costa, but arranged for you using other tour companies.
I would recommend this tour to anyone but I would suggest another cruise line.
I must also say that Olympia in April with the red buds in bloom is an amazingly beautiful place full of so much history it really blows your socks off!!!
