Dubronovik

Is the NCL cruise port within walking distance to the wall/old town in Dubronovik? We will be traveling there off our cruise ship, 2pm-9pm and wandering if we could walk to town or need to book tours/get a taxi? Thanks. We will have 2 small children in tow.

Bigger ships dock at one port, about a half hour walk or ten minute shuttle or taxi ride. With little ones, take shuttle or taxi. Save your feet and the little ones' energy for walking the walls. Some ships provide free shuttles, others charge.

Some smaller ships dock at a port close to the city walls, but require use of tenders.
Check with your ship.

Either way, it is easy when you get there and you do not need a tour. Walking the walls takes time and is in direct sun. Take water and sunscreen.
Beautiful city!

If you haven't done so, join cruisecritic.com and find the roll call for your cruise. You might find other families with young children to share excursions with or to see what they have planned.

What ship will you be on? We took our GD on Norwegian Epic when she was 4. It was fabulous for her and us. Their kids' programs were far above those on other cruises we have taken. They were the best organized and their safety precautions and drop off and pick up systems were superb. The buffet also had a huge variety of food, so our GD always had choices she liked.

Thanks so much. Funny, just joined cruise critic last night and will check that out. Good point about saving little ones feet for wall. We definitely want to walk the wall and do old town. Did you do excursion or just go out on your own? We wont be there til 2-9pm so figured would do our own walk.

We are taking NCL jade and we love NCL. This will be our 5th one.
Thanks again. We are so excited for our Adriatic Sea cruise!!

We did the NCL Jade trip a couple of years ago. The ship docked quite a way from the town, but a free shuttle bus was provided for everyone not doing a formal tour.

We walked the wall, then spent a little time in the old town itself. At the shuttle drop off / pick up point there was a huge queue for local currency, so we decided not to waste time on that. Big mistake! The cost of walking the wall was OK to pay with c/card, but each of the little cafes and bars we went into insisted on cash - which we didn't have! I think they were absolutely overrun with tourists, so were able to insist on cash.

It's a lovely old town, and a fabulous cruise. I think you'd be best to start the wall first up, then if your littlies tire of it, you can go back down part way round the circuit and do something else. Just make sure you have some local currency with you! Di

Thanks for the info on local currency. I guess we will have to get that somewhere.

We did the Jade cruise last year. Ship was faaaaaar from the old city, so no walking there and if I recall correctly uphill. In my journal noted $15 each for NCL bus, 10E for cab and $2.90 each for bus (15K). We stopped in Split first, so had local currency. The bus stopped right outside the port.
