Douro or Danube for river cruise

My husband and I are trying to decide between the Danube or the Douro for a river cruise in May 2015. Any thoughts?

We have done several river cruises including one on the Danube and we loved it. My BIL & SIL also took the cruises with us and then took a Douro River cruise alone and they much preferred the other cruises, especially the Danube. They also said they were bored on the Douro River Cruise. We took Uniworld Cruises for our Danube River Cruise and I highly recommend them. We had a great time.

The one cruise you DO NOT want to take is the Elbe River cruise on any boat. It seems that the Elbe river is consistently too low for cruising so your "cruise" will turn out to be a bus tour.

also not to knock cruisedeals but you really want to work with an advisor who has some special affiliation... either with Virtuoso or with each cruiseline itself for special perks!

they'll really take care of you this way.

Sorry to hear the Douor cruise was boring. We weren't the only ones on board the Danube cruise who thought it was boring. Our most interesting river cruises were the Mekong River and Russia.

We have taken both the Danube and Douro river cruises and I have to agree that the Danube is much more scenic and interesting. The Douro does not really lend itself to cruising as it is down in a valley and you have to travel a distance to get to the town. Towns are not as interesting as the ports you hit on the Danube -- Regensburg, Vienna, Bratslava, and Budapest to name a few. We use Grand Circle and have always been happy. Enjoy the trip, whatever company you use. We enjoy river cruising a lot.
