Just in case anyone has suggestions , we are interested in doing our own thing at some of the ports on our cruise in October. Any ideas please about the ports - what is there, transport needed, and what to do for Savona for 8 hours, Civitavecchia for 10 hours, La Velleta 7 hours, Catania 4 hours.
Do our own thing or the shore excursions with Costa cruises?

Well there have been reports inre to dissatisfaction w/ Costa tours, esp. in terms of customer service and f/u to issues. We do our own excursions anyway and w/ Costa I would be especially inclined to do so. JM2C. Larry
I suggest if you haven't already signed up with cruisecritic.com you do so. You can then find your specific cruise under the roll call section and possibly make arrangements to join in any private tours that others on your cruise have arranged. It is a great way of seeing a lot more for a lot less. We always do this on our cruises and have never had a problem.
Thanks for your suggestions.
I didn't know about the cruisecritic.com - roll call section will check it out.
