We did a Med cruise in October a few years ago that had a stop in Gibraltar. I researched what we wanted to see and negotiated with a cab driver when we got off the ship to go to those places. Enjoyed the day very much

Hello Dayenu...yes, we did Gibraltar by car. I wouldn't have wanted to miss it being so close. Just the feel of being on the Rock was enough for us..stayed ovrnight at the venerable Rock Hotel overlooking the harbor below (veddy old, veddy British). Since we had a car which we had to deliver in nearby Algeciras the next day, we were able to tool around a goodly portion of the rock quite easily.
I know you're interested in the synagogues..there are reportedly four. We were warmly welcomed by the large one on Line Wall Road, the Nefusot Yehudada sinagoga...for mincha-ma'arev they had about 30 congregants there on a Wednesday night! The Israeli Rabbi personally welcomed us, the only tourists present.
St. Michaell's cave is interesting and of course the Barbary apes..worth seeing. We had a very good Basque dinner (forgot the name, did not include in my journal).
Off for a month in Morocco the next day...you talk about the rough Atlantic, our ferry was more than an hour late due to heavy seas in the Medit which posptponed docking in Tangiers.
Enjoy your visit. Please write me for an invitation to literary event in SF area.

Dayenu, we are in Ibiza right now and heading to Gibraltar in a couple days. Weather has been fabulous. Beautiful Area. We end the cruise in Lisbon. Wonderful. Will let you know our impressions of Gibraltar after we have been there.
