Hello,
We might be interested in a Cunard cruise called "Holy Land Explorer" next year. Although we have traveled quite a bit in Europe, we have never taken a cruise. This itinerary ends with two days at sea in order to return to Rome where the cruise originates. Is it possible to leave a cruise prior to the final port? Are penalties charged or would we just forfeit what we paid for days we don't use?
We will be looking for similar itineraries from other lines; the ports that interest us are Rome, Athens, Kusadasi (for Ephesus) and Ashdod (for Jerusalem) in case anyone can suggest another cruise.
Oh and if you are wondering, 3 days at sea with no ports is too many for us. We'd like to eliminate the two consecutive days at the end and spend more time in Rome prior to the cruise. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

I know people who have done this and even on our most recent Oceania cruise several people left at the last port prior to returning to the official debarkation port so they could spend several days in Tuscany on their own. Transportation is on your own and you have to make arrangements with the cruise line in advance. No penalties, but no adjustment in cruise fare either so yes you are in essance forfeiting the cost of the last couple of days.
You need to notify cruise line in writing in advance and get approval. Visas it any required will be your responsibility. Regent Seven Seas used to partially refund money for unused cruise portion, perhaps it was the only line to do so.
