Cruisewear on Princess

Its been 5-6 years since our last cruise. Will be on 10 night Coral Princess half transit to Panama Canal. We like to do Anytime dining in MDR for dinner. My male friend is bringing 2 sports coats, no suits, several nice "dress" pants, ironed collared shirts, nice sweaters. Is this appropriate these days? Heard dress code has relaxed considerably. I am bringing a couple sequined twin sets and palazzo pants for formal nights, a few dressy sun dresses, and nice pants with dressy sweters for dinners. OK? No long or formal dresses planned (although I could). Thoughts? Thanks!

We cruise almost exclusively on Princess. You and your companion will be just fine for formal and non formal nights. We travel with carry on only, so no room for formal wear. I wear black slacks, nice top, and pashmina for formal. My husband wears slacks, collared shirt, sport coat, no tie. Some cruisers love dressing up, some do not but still like dinner in the MDR on formal nights. Don't give it another thought. You will fit in perfectly. Happy cruising.

I think the dress code now is "just wear something"

I agree with the others. That will be just fine though I do wonder if sweaters are needed as it will be warm.

Bring a sweater or a pashmina. The dining room and the theater can be quite chilly with the AC at full blast.

Dayenu: "just wear something" ? Is it "just wear something" in oppose to "wear nothing"?

LBloom: I wouldn't bring 2 jackets. One is more than plenty. Who cares if you wear the same jacket twice, or no jacket at all?

I "conform" and wear a jacket to dinner and the formal events such as Captain's reception etc. But as soon as those events are over, I go back to my cabin and change into something more comfortable.

There are going to be people who wear their formal outfit for the entire evening, going to bars, shows etc in their finer wear. So it is either I look out of place with my shorts and sandals or they look out of place with their tux and evening gowns. Hint: there are more of them.

Since I don't care what they think anyway, so I wear comfortable clothing. If you feel embarrassed and out of place due to "peer pressure", by all means, stay dressed up for the entire evening.

The formal night dress code has been toned down so much that I have seen many without jackets. They have accepted long sleeve dress shirts and no ties on my last cruise in the Mediterranean where they are more formal than others locations (such as Mexico and Caribbean).

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone! Confirmed my thoughts to bring several "dressy" twin sets in case I need the cardigan.

That is more than adequate. In fact, I would question the need for the sweaters going to a tropical area as you are.
