Cruise to Bermuda or Bahamas

My husband and I (both seniors) are considering either a cruise from NY to Bermuda on the NCL Crown (formerly Crown Odessey)in June '04 or Bahamas (Port Canavaral, Miami, Stirrup Cay, Nassau) on the NCL Dawn in May or June '04 Any comments regarding either ship, staterooms, food, itinerary, etc. would be appreciated.

We did Bermuda from NY. I think you will be happier with a Bermuda itinerary vs. Bahamas.

I also think you will be happier with either Celebrity or Royal Caribbean vs. NCL if you are looking for great food & service. This is just my personal opinion.

I heartily endorse Budman's message. Unless you have some compulsion to sail on NCL, I think you'll find the food, service, amenities, and itinerary of Celebrity better suited to seniors. While I have nothing against RCL...a great cruise for fun and action... Celebrity offers a more elegant vacation.

Just another senior's opinion.

Terry:
Here's my take on your question.

Do you prefer a larger or a smaller ship? The Dawn is 3 times larger than the Crown and 14 years newer. Have you been to any of the ports before? If not, the Dawn will probably give you more variety. We took the Dawn to Fla. and Bahamas this past June and had a great time, the ship is top notch with lots of variety in terms of food and entertainment. We have been to Bermuda 3 times previously so the choice was a no brainer.

Stick with NCL is you like the idea of "Freestyle" cruising, i.e. eat when, where and with whom you like. If you like a more structured cruise and like meeting new people at dinner, RCCL or Celebrity are good alternatives.

Only you can decide which is best for you. But all things being equal, I'd opt for the larger and newer ship, the Dawn.

We prefer NCL because we sailed on the SKY to Alaska in May and liked Freestyle Cruising. We found the food and service to be excellent. Reviews on the Dawn appear to be mostly positive. Cannot find any reviews about the Crown but the idea of a smaller ship sounds interesting.

Bermuda, Bermuda, Bermuda....on the NCL Crown... we maybe attempting to go back for our 10th time again...Last week we were re-routed to NE/Canada. Very impressed with the handling by NCL of passengers in NYC..extremely efficient getting on and off..Bravo, wish RCI would take a few lessons.
